Parent & Me Program:
Your child must be on one of our morning or afternoon program waitlists and your child must be at least 18 months old as of the start date of the session to attend the Parent & Me program. The Parent & Me program is entirely separate from the nursery school programs (morning or afternoon) and participation in the Parent & Me program does not affect your chances of receiving an offer to the Morning or Afternoon School Programs. However, our Parent & Me program is designed to be attended by your child for the one-year period before he or she would start in the morning program (if he or she were to receive an offer for the morning program).
Morning School Program:
Your child must be at least 2.5 years old by August 31st to start in our Yellow Group (our youngest classroom) in our Morning School program (exs. 2.5 years old by August 31st of 2011 to join the yellow group for the 2011-2012 school year; 2.5 years old by August 31st of 2012 to join the yellow group for the 2012-2013 school year; etc.). As a general rule, children born between March 1st and August 31st will have two years at LVNS before attending Kindergarten (usually one in yellow room and one in red room, though sometimes a child may spend his or her second year in the blue room depending on director's and teachers' assessment of development level and/or parental preference if space is available). And, as a general rule, children born between September 1st* and February 28th (or 29th in a leap year) will have three years at LVNS before attending Kindergarten (one in each of the yellow room, blue room and red room).
Afternoon School Program:
Subject to the sole discretion of the Director upon review of an applicant's readiness, Afternoon School applicants are generally required to be 3.5 years old by the date upon which they would start school. Afternoon School applicants also must be potty trained.
* At this time, the cut-off date to start public kindergarten in CA is 5 years of age by December 2nd of that school year. However, legislation recently passed in the CA legislature to change that cut-off date to September 1st, which cut-off date change will be phased in over a three year period starting with the 2012-2013 school year, as follows: November 1st for the 2012-2013 school year; October 1st for the 2013-2014 school year; and September 1st for the 2014-2015 school year. Most private schools already have a September 1st, or earlier, cut-off date. Please check with your elementary school of choice, as this information needs to be confirmed by them.
