When will my child attend LVNS and for how long?

Please remember your child needs to be at least 18 months old to attend the toddler program.  Our toddler program is meant to be attended for one year before he or she would start preschool.  Also, your child needs to be at least 2.5 years old by September 30th for our Yellow Group in our Morning School.  Afternoon School applicants need to be 3.5 years old by the date they would start school, not necessarily by September 30th.  Afternoon School applicants also need to be potty trained.

Toddler = Fall 2009
Morning = Fall 2010 (Yellow Group)
Afternoon = 3.5 years prior to start date

  • Children born Apr to Aug '07 will have two years at LVNS and start K in 2012.
  • Children born Dec '07 to Mar 30, '08 will have three years at LVNS and start K in 2013.
  • Children born Sep '07 to Nov '07 will have two or three years at LVNS and start K in 2012 or 2013.

Toddler = Fall 2010
Morning = Fall 2011 (Yellow Group)

  • Children born Apr to Aug '08 will have two years at LVNS and start K in 2013.
  • Children born Dec '08 to Mar 30, '09 will have three years at LVNS and start K in 2014.
  • Children born Sep '08 to Nov '08 will have two or three years at LVNS and start K in 2013 or 2014.

* Please note that most public kindergarten programs require your child be age 5 by December 1st the year they start school.  Some private schools require they be age 5 by September 1st, and some are early summer.  Please check with your elementary school of choice, as this information needs to be confirmed by them.  We help LVNS parents evaluate their child’s kindergarten readiness several times a year.

Application Process

  1. Take a tour of the school.
  2. Submit a completed application and application fee.
  3. Acceptance letters for an incoming class are typically mailed at least six months prior to the start of the new school year in September.

We realize applying to preschools in West LA can be very stressful. Like many other schools in the area, we get far more applications than we have spots to fill. When reviewing our applications, we consider the following (in no particular order):

  1. Application date
  2. Child’s age and gender
  3. Whether or not the child is a younger sibling of a current or former student
  4. Participation in our other programs (Toddler Class or Afternoon School)
  5. Diversity

No child is ever promised a spot in the school (including siblings) until an offer letter is mailed – at which time the family will typically have two weeks to accept or reject the offer.

Our incoming families are usually notified by late February of the year they are to begin school. Some spots get filled as late as July and August. Generally, incoming families will meet in April to socialize and to learn about their responsibilities for the coming year.

PLEASE NOTE: Younger siblings of current or former students in the Morning School are given admissions priority for the Morning School. Younger siblings of current or former students in the Afternoon School are given admissions priority for the Afternoon School.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available to qualifying families in Morning and Afternoon School.
